United Way of Volusia-Flagler Counties Distributes $42,850
United Way of Volusia-Flagler Counties will donate $42,850 to 14 local agencies providing essential COVID-19 relief efforts in Flagler and Volusia Counties. Over $40,000 will be used to provide food and childcare assistance for impacted families. A full database of community resources - for those in in need of food, childcare and financial assistance as well as other basic resources - is also being maintained by the local United Way at www.211live.org or by calling 2-1-1.
This distribution was made possible by donations from NextEra Energy, the United Way of Volusia-Flagler Counties, and generous individual donors. The 14 agencies receiving United Way funding are: Boys & Girls Clubs of Volusia/Flagler Counties, Christmas Come True, Early Learning Coalition of Flagler/Volusia, Easterseals of Northeast Central Florida, Family Life Center, Flagler Cares, Gal7 Foundation, Hunger Fight, Neighborhood Center of West Volusia, Outreach Community Care Network, Salty Church, Social Services of the Jewish Federation, Volusia Flagler Coalition for Homeless, and Volusia Flagler Family YMCA.
“These donations will serve many of our ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) families that are impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and provide immediate relief,” said Courtney Edgcomb, President of the United Way of Volusia-Flagler Counties. “We’re thankful for the generous gifts that allow us to partner with these organizations and provide aid to our community’s hardworking families.”
The United Way of Volusia-Flagler Counties is still accepting donations for the next round of funding. Funding requests totaled over $353,000 in this first round and many requests were referred to other organizations and programs supporting COVID-19 relief efforts.
The United Way of Volusia-Flagler Counties anticipates a second phase of funding to be released in May as community needs are assessed and donations are received. Individuals and organizations interested in supporting COVID-19 relief efforts can donate by visiting https://bit.ly/UWVFCCovid or texting ‘Virus2020’ to 41444. Donations by check can also be sent to the United Way offices at 3747 W. International Speedway Blvd., Daytona Beach, FL 32124.
