United Way of Volusia-Flagler Counties Teams with Volusia County for Food Distribution
United Way of Volusia-Flagler Counties, Inc. (UWVFC) and Volusia County have teamed up to help distribute food bags throughout Volusia County. Funding for this program is through the county's CARES funding. The intent is for UWVFC to coordinate food distribution to nonprofit, faith based organizations in Volusia County through the food program facilitated by Halifax Urban Ministries (HUM) food program at the Ocean Center. This will allow agencies to maintain consistency of food bag items and to streamline distribution and avoid duplication.
Since the program was approved through Volusia County Council, UWVFC has coordinated the distribution of over 1,250 food bags. Nonprofit faith based groups receive requested food bags every other week to distribute throughout their communities. The program will continue through December to assure that low to moderate income residents of Volusia County who were negatively affected by COVID-19 have food.
